The tobacco death burden in developed and Eastern European countries is equivalent to the impact of a 9/11-type terrorist attack every 14 hours!
• Cigarette smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States.
• In the United States, cigarette smoking is responsible for about one in five deaths annually, or about 438,000 deaths per year.
• An estimated 38,000 of these deaths are the result of secondhand smoke exposure.
• Deaths on American soil from terrorist attacks in since 9/11: ZERO.

"Where's the perspective? Where's the outrage? Where's the common sense?"
Where's your brain?
Your true colors are really beginning to show. Like most radical left wing wackos, you do not believe in the personal freedoms that people have a right to and wish to inflict "YOUR" misguided ideas and ideals on individuals.
I don't recall ever seeing a cigarette force itself into some one's mouth and then light itself and force the lungs to inhale. It's called freedom of choice. And the 2nd hand smoke fallacy is just that. It's more propaganda and pseudo science foisted on gullible people.
Much like the pro crime gun control nuts, you have no common sense. No gun has ever loaded itself and then pulled its' own trigger. But, you whack jobs want to take away an individuals right to self defense for responsible gun owners CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS!...something you only tout when it fits your agenda.
First of all, where does Shoe's original post say anything about banning smoking? He's simply pointing out how many people die from it. What's your problem with that?
Also, since when is secondhand smoke a fallacy? That would come as news to the medical community, and the nearly 40,000 people who died from it last year. If it's "pseudo-science," where's your link to a reputable source supporting your "thinking"?
Finally, I guess you missed this, which I posted a few minutes ago:
"Hey, LoserBoy, the one who's out of touch with reality isn't Shoes, it's you.
Here's one statistic: Nearly 200,000 Americans die each year from medical errors while in hospitals.
And look, here's a link to an actual news story from an unbiased source!
http://tinyurl.com/3bqlkd
But wait...there's more! Here's a story from FOX News, a source you and lee rely on, about a study that found deaths from prescription medications nearly tripled in the last few years, to nearly 90,000 annually.
http://tinyurl.com/24pjjp
So that's nearly 300,000 deaths each year just from hospital errors and legal prescription drugs. And you still think we should be worried about terrorists coming to get us? You don't have to be a statistician to see how wrong you are. As usual."
“While a strong focus on combating terrorism is understandable, given the political significance of attacks by terrorist groups, and their economic and psychological effects, it’s important that national and international policymakers also take into account the great number of lives that could be saved through directing far more resources to stronger tobacco control measures.”
I smoked in college, and had no trouble quitting afterward. But I've had friends who tried everything and had such a hard time stopping. The one thing that seems to work for a lot of them, and not just for smoking, is self hypnosis.
Nic - Half of you (the half that sides with doubters) should check our our latest update on Global Warming at the end of the previous Gore posting. You might be swayed to change your mind.
I've smoked for 30+ years and have no desire to quit. I like it. It's also a well known fact that as a general rule, smokers are above average intelligence compared to the non-smoking population, since the nicotine stimulates the brain, and gives smart people that "kick".
The human body, once off nicotine for 7 days has no physical need for nicotine anymore. It's the habit of putting the hand to the mouth that is the problem. Average smokers make that motion something like 400-500,000 times a year. That's the hard habit to break. That's part of the reasoning behind people getting fat after they quit smoking. The mental habit of "hand to mouth" is what is almost impossible to break.
When I was in the hospital biz, I also did research and found that of all the people in the "dark quiet" rooms such as ICU and CCU units that had heart, cancer, and respiratory problems, something like 97.3% of them had been smokers. But of all the people that ever smoked, over 98% of them NEVER get cancer. While SOME people may get cancer from smoking, the statement that smoking causes cancer is false. I've known a hell of a lot more people that never smoked and died from cancer than I have people that smoked and died from cancer. Cancer is in the genes and you're predisposed to get it, smoking or not.
The people who "die" from "secondhand smoke" are going to get cancer anyway. "Second hand smoke" is a propaganda BS ploy from the do-gooders. Out of your 40,000 deaths from second hand smoke, I'd wager that less than 100 of them are actually caused by breathing in someone else's smoke.
And I'm the first to admit, that anybody over the age of about 5 knows that inhaling "smoke" ain't real good for the lungs...don't see people sitting around a smoking fire and inhaling it because it "tastes good" do ya'?
It's called freedom of choice. If I own a business and allow smoking for my patrons that wish to smoke and you don't like it...go somewhere else.
That's the stupidest bunch of gibberish I've ever read. You're an idiot AND a loser. So long!
"So long!"...promises, promises...
I've forgot more than you'll ever know.

RE: Your Oath of Office and Possible Acts of Treason
Dear United States Senator and Fellow Citizen:
This is an update and summary of some of the strongest publicly available evidence that implicates top officials in the US government for carrying out heinous crimes against humanity in a false flag attack against innocent US civilians on 9/11/01.
Despite any proclamations of "not knowing" or "ignorance of the facts" that may be presented as a defense at a future trial, any US Senator who continues to support this administration and its various illegal activities and occupations after having knowledge of the evidence presented in this letter today is tantamount to nothing short of treason and a violation of an oath to protect the US Constitution from enemies from within.
1. The planes were probably not hijacked on 9/11/01. If they were, it would have been the first successful hijackings of 757’s and 767’s in the history of the aircraft . Effective anti-hijacking capabilities were available long before 2001 and may have been installed in all 757’s and 767’s at the time of the purported hijackings.

2. The plane that hit WTC2 may not have been a regular commercial airliner, and/or the facades of WTC2 where the plane hit may have somehow been modified, because the plane apparently pierced right through the building with its nose mostly still in tact as it came out the other side.

3. It is highly improbable for each of the world trade center towers to be so completely dustified, and in such a short time span (10-15 seconds), without some input of energy other than gravity.

- Any physics textbook discussion on conservation of mass, energy, and momentum.
4. There are countless observations that are consistent with the idea that a chemical breakdown of materials occurred (or continued to occur) after the world trade center towers had been destroyed.
Sources:
- http://www.archive.org/details/nbc200109110954-1036 (see time markers 4:45-5:05 and 7:14-7:20 and beyond for what appears to be the beginning and the continuation, respectively, of a possible chemical breakdown or "fuming" of the leeward facade of WTC1 just after a seemingly reactive dust cloud from the destruction of WTC2 came in contact with the facade).
- http://www.drjudywood.com (see photo evidence and discussions of "lathering", "fuming", and especially "toasty cars")
5. As one of many alternative explanations, technology exists that would allow the inconspicuous coating of much of the steel frame interior of the WTC towers with explosive material (say instead of the purported fire protective coating that was continuously being "re-applied" throughout the lives of the buildings), a material that may later have been triggered with a laser from a remote location.
Sources:
- http://tinyurl.com/2jy58b (nanoparticle-sized thermite is one possible laser-triggered explosive material)
- http://tinyurl.com/yqzf99 (a recent advance in laser technology called "ultrashort laser pulsing" might allow for much faster, more explosive chemical reaction times for laser induced chemical reactions).
- http://tinyurl.com/3bmlod (directed energy laser guns developed by Raytheon is a technology that may have been used to trigger chemical explosions in the WTC towers on 9/11/01).
6. It is evident just from the video footage alone that WTC 7 was purposely and skillfully destroyed by a different mechanism from the WTC towers because, unlike the WTC towers which were turned to dust from the top down, WTC 7 was destroyed from the bottom up and a relatively large amount of the building survived as a heap pile. The destruction of WTC 7 is not counted here as evidence of crimes against humanity, however, because nobody was killed in its purposeful destruction.

This is only a partial list and does not include additional evidence that can and should be obtained through the investigative powers of the US Senate.

Deaths related to smoking: 438,000 per year
Annual death due to secondhand smoke: 38,000
Death burden by tobacco equivalent to impact of 9/11 terrorist-type attacks: every 14 hours
Deaths on American soil from terrorist attacks since 9/11: PRICELESS!
Where is the outrage? Outrange against who? The tobacco industry or the stupid people who continue to smoke in spite of all the warnings? How about personal responsibility?
Now you've somehow tied up terrorists attacks with smoking? What a stretch.
We're talking about deaths here, right? Death = death. Smoking = Terrorism.
The only reason it's allowed to continue is because of the huge tax revenues smoking (supposedly) provides the government. Meanwhile, it's a huge burden on non-smoker's health-care costs.
Anyone else here like to see VALID, RESPONSIBLE support for LoserBoy's statement that smoker's are more intelligent (she asked, trying to keep a straight face)? If so, don't hold your breath.
In the meantime, here's a study, from the very respectable Temple University, showing that secondhand smoke lowers a significant number of students' test scores:

"Death = death. Smoking = Terrorism."
Well, for once, you're at least half right.
Death=Death...earthshaking profoundness indeed. Truly godlike insight.
Smoking=Terrorism...Stupidity personified. Hallucinatory delusions.
And tobacco products are a great revenue generator for the gub'mint. The problem is, that the do-gooders who want to tax tobacco out of existence only do harm to those who can't afford them and sacrifice food and other necessities for their smokes. Which only leads to more black market/criminal activities for the "poor, downtrodden masses".
You should be ashamed of yourself promoting your anti-smoing propaganda here. Your anti-smoing theories and the official version of 9/11 are both equally false.
We were trying to make the point that "terrorism" is responsible for far, far fewer deaths in America than other activities. Obviously you missed the point or have your own agenda. We are not ashamed.
Thanks.
