Barbara Lee - 9/14/01

Drawing the line in Congress: Fully Funded Redeployment Now!

by Rep Barbara Lee - Sept. 20, 2007

As many of you may know, just over six years ago I cast the lone vote against giving George Bush an unchecked authority to wage an undefined war against an undefined enemy for an unspecified period of time, an authority his administration has invoked in going into Iraq, in the establishment of military tribunals, even in conducting warrantless surveillance of Americans.

Thankfully, today I am no longer a lone voice, as evidenced in no small part by vibrant communities like this one. The majority of Americans want to end the occupation of Iraq and bring our troops home, but despite the fact that George Bush refuses to change course in Iraq, Congress has not taken the necessary steps to end his administration's failed policy.

So how do we change this?

Yeah, baby! She got it right, no doubt about it. Recall DiFi and replace her with BLee. Now!

I just met Barbara Lee this morning at a public meeting we had here in Albany, CA, concerning veterans affairs.

She is one caring and smart congressperson.

As she spoke, we wrote questions on pieces of paper, and my question was chosen to be read afterward: "Would you consider running for president in 2008?"

Everybody laughed and clapped and cheered when this question was read. They just love her here, especially the veterans. What a rock star!

I had a chance to meet her in person afterward. I gave her the good news that I was her 2008 Babara Lee for President campaign chairperson, and although we all laughed and smiled, she didn't say no.

I guess that makes it official then. She is running, and I'm heading the campaign. You heard it here first!

Awesome! This is great news -- we need more Democrats like her, and we definitely need a president like her!!! Congratulations, h nic!

Now what? Anybody know how to run an election campaign?

Conjure up the ghost of Richard Dailey and have the precinct bosses stuff the ballot boxes...that's the only way Babs could ever get more than about 1% of the National vote.

LOL -- that's a good one, Life.

Maybe today you're right, but who knows what tomorrow brings.

I may not be a savvy campaign chairperson yet, but one thing I do know is that this country tends to go for ballsy people.

My Babs has got more spine and heart and brain than all of Congress combined, which isn't saying much, but still, at least there's plenty to work with here!

If I were president, what would I have done after 9/11 (putting aside the fact that 9/11 would not have been possible without Bush/Cheney in a position to pull the trigger in the first place)?

Most now admit that going into Afghanistan and Iraq the way we did was a mistake -- the only disagreement being in the magnitude of the error.

There is only one congressperson out of 535 where we could say for certain that, if this person were president at that time, we would not be in this mess today. Guess who?

glad she's not my hero...whew.

Whew yourself. I thought you had some dirt on my girl Babs here. Don't scare me like that!

The hit piece on Rosie lost me in the first paragraph when it said:

"Rosie blah blah blah," said a psychiatrist.

A psychiatrist? I only know one psychiatrist personally, somebody I initially trusted almost entirely on the basis of him being a psychiatrist, and I've never met a more psychotic person in my life!

It's not saying much because I've had a relatively stable, drama-free upbringing and continue to be surrounded by relatively stable, drama-free people, but still...

You're going to have to come up with a better source than a "psychiatrist," Life.

Anyway, please keep in mind that Rosie is my hero mostly because she seems to invoke a specific kind of venomous attack that I am interested in studying and knowing more about. Therefore, this apparent hit piece only solidifies these feelings about her, not the other way around.

While the rest of the world protests crimes against humanity in Darfur that would make Saddam look like Mother Teresa...

what has America done?

There is only one American leader who stands out as spear-heading the effort to end the violence there. Guess who?
